Buffalo Range Riders Mounted Shooting
The Buffalo Range Riders Mounted Shooting club was
formed in 2005 to promote the great sport of Mounted
Shooting and the 'Spirit of the Game'. SASS Mounted
Shooting is one of the nation's fastest growing
equestrian sports.
Mounted Shooters engage a course of fire on horseback.
The sport combines the elements of exhibition shooting,
barrel racing, pole bending, and reining; all done
while using two .45 caliber single action revolvers,
loaded with 5 rounds each of black powder blanks to
shoot ten balloon targets set in a random pattern
called a 'stage'. Mounted shooters are timed through
the stage determining raw time plus any penalties
incurred; for instance, 5 seconds added to raw time
for knocked over barrel, dropped gun, missed target.
The contestant with the fastest overall time wins.
Mounted Shooting events are held by the Buffalo
Range Riders the first Saturday of each month
to recruit
and mentor new mounted shooters; as well as provide
an arena for seasoned mounted shooters to hone their
skills.
The Buffalo Range
Riders wants you! The SASS
Mounted Shooters Handbook spells out the guidelines
and rules for a Buffalo Range Riders Mounted Shooting
Match. The Buffalo Range
Riders holds practices, exhibitions, and competitions
to meet all of your mounted shooting needs. This is
a family club and a great sport. Join us now, to make
new friends, and have fun!
CART SHOOTING
Cart shooting is a game where the shooter rides
in a horse-drawn cart through a 10-balloon course
of
fire, shooting the balloons as he or she goes. This
particular game is ideal for those who don't have
their own horse or are otherwise not comfortable from
horseback, but who want to participate in SASS Mounted
Shooting.
This dimension of Mounted Shooting has opened the
doors to virtually innumerable opportunities. The
Buffalo Range Riders are proud to be strong supporters
of this new dimension of Mounted Shooting.
There are 3 categories in the Cart Division:
Combined Team - One shooter and one driver signed
up and compete as a team
Shotgun Shooter - A shooter that is assigned to a
driver/car/horse and shoot for fun.
Pioneer Cart Shooter - Competitors that shoot and
do their own driving.
Among the cart shooting contestants currently involved
there are levels of experience ranging from the novice
to drivers that have won driving championships in
various cart and equestrian events. There's not a
person that returns from a ride doing Cart Shooting
that isn't thrilled, and smiling from ear to ear!

Mounted Handbook beginning

BUFFALO RANGE RIDERS POINTS SYSTEM
The Buffalo Range Riders has adopted a point system
that has proven to be a lot of fun, levels out the
playing field and fosters friendly competition.
This is how the Buffalo Range Riders Point System
works: As you know SASS has 5 divisions for mounted
shooting, so, we figure that if a division #1 bests
a master #5…well, that ought to count for something.
So, you get one point for just being brave enough
to participate; then you earn a point for each contestant
you best, and THEN you also earn the total difference
between the division you are in and a contestant in
a higher division of those you best in the competition.
For example: A division 1 rider bests a division
5, 3, and a 2: total points = 11; 1 point for
participating,
3 points for riders bested, 7 BONUS points for division
difference. Another example: A division 5 Master
riders bests a 5, 3, and a 2; total points =
4; 1 point for
participating, 3 points for riders bested, no bonus
points.
To qualify for year-end awards all you have to do
is the following:
Be a member of the Buffalo Range Riders
Attend as many Buffalo Range Riders events as possible
Of course, the more shoots you attend, the more points
you earn.
Have fun!
You never know what's going to happen, everyone has
a chance.
Thank you for your continued participation
and support!
