Black Powder for Dummies

Presented by: Captain George Baylor, SASS #24287

Captain Baylor, who was chosen by Cowboys TV to teach black powder on air, explores the available black powder substitutes and simple ways to use them successfully, including simple loading techniques for rifle, pistol, shotgun, and percussion pistols, and some quick and easy methods for cleaning guns after using the substitutes. For those who want to use “real” black powder, he discusses simple procedures for using “holy” black powder. He discusses the “store bought” ammunition available. He shows which of the substitutes is hottest, and which gives the most accuracy. He explores the SASS Smoke Standard and how to assure your guns make enough smoke. He describes an easy method for the care and feeding of percussion pistols, and he has several suggestions for making your percussion pistols as reliable as cartridge pistols. Captain Baylor shows how to make it easy.
