history of the Single Action Shooting Society
and the sport of Cowboy Action Shooting is
one of dedication, creativity and achievement.
Its people and their lives have created a family
union with enduring appeal not only in the
United States but also throughout the world.
The men and women honored within the SASS cowboy
Action Shooting Hall of Fame, SASS’ highest
honor, represent the heart and spirit of this
truly American pastime. Sport founders, promoters,
manufacturers, makers, shooters and others
whose contributions to the game helped it to
grow and endure, find a home within this unique
memorial.
Criteria for Induction
Individuals selected for induction into the SASS
Hall of Fame will have made outstanding contributions
based on one or more of the following criteria:
- Individuals who have made exceptional contributions
to the creation and advancement of SASS
and Cowboy Action Shooting.
- Individuals who promote the Spirit of
the Game well beyond the boundaries of
the shooting range.
- Achievement of national significance and
historic relevance as it relates to SASS
and Cowboy Action Shooting.
- Achievement of national significance as
it relates to the sporting aspects of
Cowboy Action Shooting.
Nomination of Inductees
The Board of Directors of the Single Action Shooting
Society requests nominations of living or deceased
individuals for consideration for induction
into the SASS Hall of Fame.
Any SASS member or SASS affiliated organization
may nominate
a qualified person for consideration. An
annual evaluation of nominees and final determination
of inductees will be made by the SASS Hall
of Fame Induction Committee.
Nomination Procedure
SASS members or SASS affiliated organizations
may request nomination forms through the Managing
Director's office of the Single Action Shooting
Society, 23255 La Palma Avenue, Yorba Linda,
California 92887. Nominating parties are also
requested to submit supplementary information
that supports the nomination (articles, artifacts,
achievements, letters of recommendation, etc.)
All materials will be incorporated within the
SASS Hall of Fame and Museum and will not be
returned to the nominating party.
Nomination forms must be received by January
15th for induction consideration in the following
calendar year. Incomplete nomination forms
will not be forwarded to the SASS Hall of Fame
Induction Committee for consideration.
Election Process
In keeping with criteria selection, the SASS
Hall of Fame Induction Committee will research
and evaluate nominees and forward the results
of said research to the SASS Board of Directors.
Prior to the meeting of the SASS Hall of Fame
Induction Committee, all members will receive:
• Biography of nominee consisting of not
more than two pages
• Selected letters of recommendation
• Copy of Nomination Form submitted with
nomination
• Ranking Sheet compiled by SASS Hall
of Fame Induction Committee
Inductees will be evaluated and selected by a
majority vote of the SASS Hall of Fame Induction
Committee. No more than four persons will be
inducted annually.
Announcement of Names of Inductees
Inductees will receive notification before public
announcement of the honor. No public announcement
will be made of candidates. Nominators of the
SASS Hall of Fame will receive written notification
of the Committee's selection for nominee.
The induction ceremony will take place during
the SASS Family Reunion and Hall of Fame Induction
held annually in August. A bronze statue will
be presented to the honoree or, in the event
of posthumous induction, to a designated family
member in the deceased's behalf. A display
containing the Inductees photo, biography and
personal items will be created and added to
the permanent display in the SASS Museum.
The inductee into the SASS Hall of Fame need
not be present, but attendance at the ceremony
is preferable.
