ASS is about to embark upon an extremely important
and exciting new adventure. SASS has just established
the SASS Cowboy Action Museum and Hall of Fame,
a non-profit educational institution designed
to document and preserve our American Western
Culture. The Mission of the SASS Museum and
Hall of Fame is to preserve the historic significance
of Cowboy Action Shooting™ and the cultural
aspects of the Single Action Shooting Society
for the enrichment and education of the SASS
membership, Western lifestyles public, and
Cowboy Action Shooting™ industry. The
Museum will be funded through contributions
from the membership of the Single Action Shooting
Society, the Western Lifestyles public, and
fundraisers at membership events. The Museum
will be managed by the Directors of the Single
Action Shooting Society and will be located
in the headquarter offices of the Single Action
Shooting Society in Yorba Linda, California.
The museum will house a variety of priceless
items and artifacts from our twenty plus year
history. The museum will be built slowly, and
a traveling version will premiere at the SASS
Convention in December. Although we are in
the preliminary stages, we have already begun
gathering and cataloging items accumulated
over the years. The first item on the list
is the original drawing of our beloved logo,
the SASS Marshal. Created by Bill Hahn back
in 1982, the priceless one-of-a-kind artwork
will be cataloged, framed, and protected as
will the original John Dwayne drawing and the
originals of our many END of TRAIL posters.
The museum will eventually house a SASS Library
where visitors will be able to view all issues
of The Cowboy Chronicle as well as our collection
of event and shooters programs. We have already
identified more than 200 items of importance
to our museum and will be creating a fund raising
campaign to help make the museum a reality.
In addition to the Museum, SASS has established
a Hall of Fame also to be housed under the
same roof. A committee is being formed to evaluate
and establish a national program of selection
and induction. We must give credit to Black
Jack McGinnis for bringing the Hall of Fame
idea to our attention this past year. After
careful consideration it was obvious a Hall
of Fame would be an important part of our museum.
