How to handle your guns when you want to travel to a CAS match in Austria
The simplest way is, you leave them at home, and you need only to have your gunrig with you. We will supply you with guns and ammo for the event. This enables you to stay independent at the rest of your journey in Europe.
To bring your long guns (rifle and shotgun) with you that is no need for a spezial permit with only one exeption: no mod.97 pump shotgun are allowed in Austria, they are stricktly prohibited. For your long guns you have to use a gun case wich can be locked for security. You will recive an invitation letter from our shooting club, this letter is attestet by a notary. You have no need for an other permit for your temporality immigration. But we can assist you at the custom officer on the airport.
If you want to have your own handguns with you fort he match: You have the need to nominate an austrian citizen with an gun owner permit. This person work as trustee for you. He must take over your handguns at the costom point on the airport and keep them for you until your departure. At the shooting range he will handle them back to you for shooting.
Another possibility is a following to bring your handguns to a shooting competition to austria: You got an invitation letter attested by a notary fron us fort he match, You contact an Austrian Embassy or Consulate in the US that you will attend a shooting competition. You need for your transport a temporary gun owner permit for handguns. This permit is described in the current Austrian Gunlaw according to paragraph 39 section 2., and is valid for 3 months. This permit must include model-type of gun, serial number and caliber. Your mod. 87 lever action shotgun is classified as a handgun in Austria.
