    Fort Irwin

Wendover, Utah or Iwakuni, Japan are the coldest I ever saw.

    How Big Is Your Can?

Lots of paraffin, rubber gaskets, rubber disc lids, sugar, pectin, and other necessities when you're putting by..... and Momma's big cast iron pressure cooker with the pressure regulating disk on top and a built-in thremometer.

Been snowin and blowin since Wednesday

We're an hour south of there and I have about 29 inches here. First time in my 77 years that I have EVER been snowed in to where I couldn't get out of my driveway. It's up to 34 degrees now and starting to melt a little bit. Supposed to get to 40 before the sun goes down. Maybe I'll be able to get out tomorrow sometime.
  6. A woman in California: "You don't have to open a door for me because I'm a woman." Me: "I'm opening it for you because I'm a gentleman." What she said wasn't lady-like nor would I repeat it most company I know. She really came unwound when I walked away laughing at her.

    How Big Is Your Can?

As a veteran of old fashioned grocery stores owned and operated by local people, and being in the northern Utah agriculture hub with lots of ladies "putting by", I was taught this many years ago. Knew a lot about Mason jars, too.

    Prepping

I just went and looked. The oldest thing was a package of Trader Joe's turkey gravy form last Thanksgiving. I'm not big on leftovers anyway. Since I've been alone me and the dog eat leftovers almost every day. Saves time cleaning out the fridge. Usually anything in there over a couple of months old get trashed.

    I HATE SNOW!!!

I've seen "base" at the ski resorts in Utah less than twenty miles from my parents' home that were over 100 inches. Know why I don't live there any more?

    I HATE SNOW!!!

I have about 30 inches. I was going to go to the grocery this morning and my Toyota Tacoma got stuck in the driveway.....After 15 minutes I got it back inside and tried the Impala. It's still in the driveway. This is the first time in 77 years that I've ever been unable to get out, and I've lived in some serious snow country a time or seven or eight. No mail, no newspaper for two days. As a matter of fact I only got mail twice since last Wednesday. I wonder if this will impress the people whose checks are late this month.

Wonder if this could still be done

Of course it would. Isn't everything racist these days? Think of the shows which wouldn't be allowed these days: Carrol Burnett, Laugh In, Get Smart, sure. But also The Smothers Brothers, Archie Bunker and his ilk, Dean Martin (sexist b-----d), Hee Haw, and a whole herd of others. I doubt the original Star Trek would make the cut. Even a lot of Disney and Warner Brothers stuff is gone because of violence, picking on minorities and disadvantaged people, smokers, drunks and drinkers, etc. Think of all the movies that would never see the light of day (or the dark of night for that matter). WE've allowed an entire culture and comedic genre to be PCed away.

    Neither snow nor rain...

My nearest mail drop is six miles away. I generally take it there but we only have a few snowplows (and most winters don't have all that much use for those few), but this storm has dropped about 30 inches in two days and the plows are running full time just keeping the major routes open. The town even rented extra plows (graders, mostly) and some skip loaders and back hoes and dump trucks to move what they did pile up out away from the roads. One thing we do have plenty of in Arizona is "out away from" most anything. Mail never did show up yesterday. I wonder if that will be an acceptable reason for my bills not getting paid on time. WE have very few "bad guys" here. Most stay down in the Phoenix area where it is warmer and where there are a few hundred thousand other bad guys and lots of liberal entities to help shield them from the wages of their sins.

    Neither snow nor rain...

...nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from completion of their appointed rounds. The unofficial USPS creed has gone by the boards at last. I got no mail Thursday, Friday, or Saturday last week. Friday and Saturday I had out going mail and the flag was up on my mail box. Sunday is a non-delivery day and Monday was Presidents Day. Tuesday I got a delivery package at 7:55 pm and a regular delivery five minutes later. Yesterday I got my mail at about 6:30pm. It's now 9:00 pm and the flag is still up on my box for more mail to go out. And they want to raise prices again. They need to get a new "unofficial motto".
