    Prepping

I TJs; However, I bought some gluten free stuffing mix. The "use by date" was somewhere mid 2019. Yuck, eck, no way I'd eat that. I tossed three boxes of it; including one I'd made as we like it..

Do you believe that you could call a female superior sir?

I've heard that one must earn respect. IMNSHO you address people with respect until you are shown by their actions that they are undeserving of respect. Even then, you should be cautious of showing disrespect!

    Neither snow nor rain...

We had the bestest mailman when we lived in Sacratomato. His name was Jason. He went out of his way to ensure that we never had mail stolen off our porch. Our mailman now is a maroon. Even the UPS guy () agrees.

    How Big Is Your Can?

A quart jar! When we bought our house in Sacramento (1973), it had a wonderfully tasty nectarine tree in the back yard. We made wonderfully tasty jam until an Adam Henry climbed the tree and broke the main branch in an attempt to steal nectarines. We cut down the broken tree and built a fence. We, somehow. found an equally tasty nectarine and planted it at the new place. We don't yet have many nectarines; but, they are yummy and make great Vodka Smoothies!

Do you believe that you could call a female superior sir?

I once worked with a woman who objected to people holding the door for her. I would do it for anyone following me until I was warned about her. She was a notorious b----. She even used a walker. One day, on my way, with co-workers, to get coffee, I opened the door and it hit her walker. I didn't notice her on the other side of the door. She harangued me for "doing it on purpose." When we got to the cafeteria, I saw our boss's boss and told her what happened as a warning what she might expect. Next thing we knew, walker b---- retired. <insert evil laugh emoji>

    Explaining Canadians

My brother moved to Canada so I wouldn't say Canadians are all nice and sweet. No one who knows him would call him nice or sweet.. I thought that was a California rule for all drivers.

Wonder if this could still be done

Frequently, my parents traveled to So. Illinois to visit relatives. One year, in the 1950s, we went to Louisiana and Florida to visit other relatives on the way. I remember those signs at water fountains and gas station restrooms. I didn't know what "colored" meant (in reference to people) until then. The only black person in my elementary school was a polite, smart young man. To my knowledge, he was never treated badly. I didn't know that he was different from anyone else.

Red Eye, please never ask me to come to dinner at your house. You are worse than my mother. I'll spare you that story!

You want to know what is racist? Being refused service in a bar on your 21st because you are with a black man. We called the police. The officer that came said they have the right to refuse service to anyone. (AKA the right to be racist.) True story, April 1970, California. The s--- being considered racist today is unconscionable to me. It is and has been setting back race relations since 2008.

Left in the dark! What to do?

We also have a cat door and the two big cats will chase them off. They are kept current on their shots and flea/tick meds.

Left in the dark! What to do?

Build a new fence like this. We had it custom made so the cats couldn't get through it. So, only small critters, only babies of those you mention could get in.

    Another Evil Cat!

You never know with cats. We took in Gee, a huge grey cat. Then, he beat up Obie, a small orange cat. They had many tussles. They both picked on Pinto, the cat that decided to live on our porch. When we moved, they formed "the brother/sisterhood of the bed" and were friends from then on. Then, a few days later we got a dog and they were friends with him too.

    Another Evil Cat!

Friends who moved to Australia (she was from there) gave us their declawed cat. that boy. However, he sure could pinch with those toes when making bread/biscuits.

Day 6 and we have officially entered...

I've heard it said and written that smooth is fast and fast is smooth. He's sure smooth so he must be fast.

Thinking About The "Slow" Thread, Or Making The Best Of Things

Yes! I agree. I got a gift certificate for Williams Sonoma for Christmas. I selected a toaster oven. I made cornbread muffins in the regular oven a few nights ago. I always put them in paper liners so they are easy to reheat. I learned that 10 minutes reheating in the oven equals burnt black in the toaster oven. Hubby didn't make a big deal of it and he loves corn bread muffins. I him!

    Wire Slowdown update

PS It is obvious that the PTB know this problem is occurring as they moved (to the Saloon) and merged two threads about it.

    Wire Slowdown update

There are too many posts to make me want to read all of them. When I became the Administrator, Black Harris was deleting the "Drivel" and similar threads at 2000 posts. I continued doing that. It is not being done now. Maybe that would be a simple fix. Maybe not. In the past, IIUC, the software provider (Invision) was contacted and they fixed something that solved the speed issues.

New Patriot - Place to Hide Guns

Hi Folks, Does anyone have one of these. https://www.tacticaltraps.com/hdcompact/?fbclid=IwAR22hBQmQg1ItKM4TzPMOzKMp7vCDo55REf_pLyOCZ3RBi72arnZpAvQOfs ? Are they as nice as the description would lead you to believe? They are on sale for $197. What do you think of that price? I realize that burglars are probably aware of them. So, a better place for guns when we are not home would be the safe. Regards, Allie

Well I Got My Wish - Snow

Last week we got about 6". Then, the sun came, after that the rain came, and it was gone. The only problem was a huge tree blocking our way out. Hubby cleared most of it as the county does not maintain that road. Then last night we got another 6+". Both of our driveways are blocked by trees. They make a rough circle, one is paved, the other is gravel. Hubby knocked the snow off the arched pines, they rose up, and the gravel road is clear. The tree on the paved drive is a huge oak. Hubby said it would take days for him to clear. I will never say or write that snow is no trouble here. At least we will have a plethora of fire wood. Here are some photos that I took from the front and back porches.

CAS guns you would like to own/ try

Hubby has a Lightening pump rifle that I'd like to shoot. He finally broke down and let me shoot his .45 '73. I didn't even have problems with the loooong butt stock.

    Pretend you're rich

Not weird at all. However, I'd take clothes and guns with me back and forth. I don't think an empty cabin in the boonies is a good place to leave guns, unless you have a safe or safe hidden place for them. I guess if I were rich, I could have a caretaker live in the house. This is not something I would give much thought to as it's never going to happen.

Do you pay bills with a credit card?

Hi Alpo, I would not pay anything with a card that charges me to do so. I do use a card for almost every purchase I make due to the free rebates. I always pay the bills when they are due. I never pay interest for anything and have not for approximately 35 years. Regards, Allie
