I Made A New Friend Today

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I went down to the main road to retrieve my trash cans today because it was trash pickup day and as I was hitching the first can to my mobility scooter a newer suburban passed by, slowed down and turned around down the street and came back. I pulled my scooter and trash can out of the way so that the suburban could get out of traffic and went over to the passenger side window and the driver was a Mexican lady who I had met before with her husband told me that her son, sitting in the passenger seat, wanted to help me move my trash cans back up the hill to my house. I told them that I thought I could get it but the young man told me that he’d really like to help so I told him to grab the other one and follow me up to the house.

Well we got up to the house and I introduced myself and thanked him for his help and he told me that his name was Dion and when he walked up to the school bus stop that I was the only one that ever waved at him or said Hi so that’s why he wanted to help me out. His mom is a nurse down at the hospital trauma unit and his dad works for our local water department. I believe they’ve done a pretty good job raising that young man. We talked for a minute and he told me that he’s 10 years old and I told him that when he gets a little older if he wanted to he could come  over to my shop and I’d teach him a little about woodworking. He left with a big smile on his face and I had a big smile on my face when I went in and told my wife about it.

Yul   If you pass your talent to that kid he will be a master, and you will have done a very good thing.

Good luck, hope it becomes a great friendship.

If he continues to hang out with YL I have no doubt.

Yep, Momma and Daddy's done a good job with that one.

This young man is on the 'rite' path.

My God-Parents were from Mexico, and I lived with them from time to time in Mexico City.

Sounds like his parents were cut from the same 'cloth' as my God-Parents.

Mrs. LL is firmly of the opinion that older folks who maintain friendships with younger folks also keep their marbles intact longer.  A great way to avoid going stale before your expiration date.

Just thinkin', I  you, Yul! You are so B)!

I treasure my treasures that you made. I even told Hubby about this story (as he would know your name from the treasures, which are in my "living room") and your other good deeds (one was with Hey Kid-I think that's his alias and the others were your gorgeous donations to SASS matches). I think Hubby   you too ;) and he's not a sappy like me.:) I think this because he paid attention to what I was telling him.;)

Sincerely,

Allie
